Introduction
The custom file name feature allows you to rename your product, category, and extra web page URLs to anything you need. Essentially, the root domain name will always be the same, but the extension of the URL can be modified.
For example, if you sell a product for an exercise DVD, Shift4Shop may automatically generate your product URL to be:
http://[your-domain]/Workout-DVD_p_12345-67.html
With the custom file name feature, you can rename the URL to be:
http:// [your-domain]/exercise-dvd.html
Custom File Name for Product Pages
To set up the custom file name for product pages, first log into your Shift4Shop Online Store Manager. Then, using the left navigation menu:
Go to Products > Product List.
Locate the product you would like to edit the URL of and click on either its Thumbnail Image, ID, or Name to open the product up.
While viewing the product, you will see a series of tabs along the top portion of the page.
3. Click on the Meta Tags tab.
4. Type in the Custom URL into the Custom File Name field.
For example, let's say you sell clothing, and your product's URL is currently:
http://[your-domain]/Sweaters_p_16.html
If you would like your URL for this product to read:
http://[your-domain]/sweater.html
Type sweater.html into the Custom File Name field.
5. Click Save at the top right to commit your changes.
Repeat this process for every product that you'd like to have a custom file name for.
Update File Names
After following the steps above, the custom file names will be set on the Product Listing Pages. However, before proceeding further, you will need to update the store's database to use the newly created custom file name for this page. To do this:
6. Go to Marketing > SEO Tools.
7. In the SEO Settings section, check the checkbox next to Custom File Names. This will enable the Custom File URL feature.
8. Click Save Changes.
9. Next, click the Update File Names link.
Custom File Name for Category Pages
To set up the custom file name for category pages, log into your Shift4Shop Online Store Manager. Once there, use the left navigation menu to:
Go to Products > Categories.
Locate the Category that you'd like to modify the URL of and click on its name to open it up.
While viewing the category control panel page, look to the right side and click on the + icon next to "SEO Title and Meta Tags" option.
3. In the SEO Titles & Meta Tags section, type your custom URL into the Custom File Name field.
For example, let's say you sell jewelry, and your category's URL is currently:
http://[your-domain]/14k-White-Gold_c_134.html
If you would like your URL for this product to read:
http://[your-domain]/14k-white-gold.html
Type 14k-white-gold.html into the Custom File Name field.
4. Click Save at the top right to commit your changes.
Update File Names
After following the steps above, the custom file names will be set on the Category Listing Pages. However, before proceeding further, you will need to update the store's database to use the newly created custom file name for this page. To do this:
Custom File Name for Extra Pages
To set up a custom file name for extra pages, log into your Shift4Shop Online Store Manager. Once there, use the left navigation menu to:
Go to Content > Site Content.
Locate the page you would like to modify the URL of and click on its Action Wheel to select the Content option.
This will display the Content page's control panel for you. Look towards the bottom for the Custom File Name section.
3. In the Custom File Name field, enter your custom URL.
For example, let's say you have an FAQ page and your extra page's URL is currently:
http://[your-domain]/FAQs_ep_5.html
If you would like your URL for this product to read:
http://[your-domain]/FAQs.html
Type FAQs.html into the Custom File Name field.
4. Click Save at the top right to commit your changes.
Update File Names
After following the steps above, the custom file names will be set on the content pages. However, before proceeding further, you will need to update the store's database to use the newly created custom file name for this page. To do this:

6. In the SEO Settings section, check the checkbox next to Custom File Names. This will enable the Custom File URL feature.
7. Click Save Changes.
8. Next, click the Update File Names link.
Custom File Name for Blog Category Pages
To set up a custom file name for Blog Category Pages, log into your Shift4Shop Online Store Manager. Once there, use the left navigation menu to:
Go to Content > Blog.
Look along the top right of the page and click on the Blog Categories button.
Click on the Edit link of the page you would like to modify the URL of.
In the Custom File Name field, enter your custom URL.
For example, let's say you have a blog category for your new products and its URL is currently:
http://[your-domain]/New-Products_bc_3.html
If you would like your URL for this product to read:
http://[your-domain]/New-Products-Blog.html
Type New-Products-Blog.html into the Custom File Name field.
5. Click Save at the top right to commit your changes.
Update File Names
After following the steps above, the custom file names will be set on the blog category pages. However, before proceeding further, you will need to update the store's database to use the newly created custom file name for this page. To do this:

7. In the SEO Settings section, check the checkbox next to Custom File Names. This will enable the Custom File URL feature.
8. Click Save Changes.
9. Next, click the Update File Names link.
Custom File Name for Blog Article Pages
To set up a custom file name for blog article pages, log into your Shift4Shop Online Store Manager. Once there, use the left navigation menu to:
Go to Content > Blog.
Locate the blog article that you'd like to modify the URL of and click on its Title to open it up.
While viewing the Blog Article page, look toward the top right of the page and click on the SEO button. This will expand the blog article edit screen to include an SEO & Meta tags section.
3. Click on the Edit link of the page you would like to modify the URL of.
4. In the Custom File Name field, enter your custom URL.
For example, let's say you have a blog page for your new products and your extra page's URL is currently:
http://[your-domain]/back-to-school-products_b_15.html
If you would like your URL for this product to read:
http://[your-domain]/Blog-Back-To-School-Products.html
Type Blog-Back-To-School-Products.html into the Custom File Name field.
5. Click Save at the top right to commit your changes.
Update File Names
After following the steps above, the custom file names will be set on the blog article page. However, before proceeding further, you will need to update the store's database to use the newly created custom file name for this page. To do this:
